WI Feed Mill Destroyed While Mink Run Free

PLYMOUTH, WI - At approximately 3:45am August 9th a fire was reported at United Feed - a mill that produces feed for mink being raised for fur in the area. The fire caused a devestating $1.5 million worth of damages to the facility. By the time fire-fighters arrived on scene most of the structure of the three-story building had already been destroyed. About 30 truckloads of feed and one freezer were reported to have been salvaged from the fire, but another freezer, offices and the mill production facilities were all reported to have been destroyed in the blaze.

This fire was reported less than an hour afer a raid on a mink farm scarcely eight miles away. During this raid on the farm of Gene Meyer, close to 2,000 mink were released. Although many of the mink were reported to have been recaptured, the breeding history of the animals was lost, and the farm will be closing! Meyer stated "all my records are messed up now, I don't know who's mother is who.. ..we wait until they fur out and its history, I'm done. I'm not a quitter, but sooner or later you got to give up after you go through something like this."

A communique received from the A.L.F. described the actions:
