ORLANDO, FL -- Fur Free Friday protester Avery Osbourne
spent nine days in jail on hunger strike after having her head slammed
into the wall by police, and then getting arrested. Jailers told No Compromise
Avery was charged with "resisting arrest without violence" and
a felony charge of "battery". Although we wondered how exactly
a person "non-violently batters" someone, the inconsistent charges
did not seem to bother the jailers.
Of course, the battery charge is totally bogus and the
police added it in an attempt to cover their backside. Police typically
add a battery-type charge in an attempt to justify their brutality, or
to leverage the arrestee into not taking legal action against the police
in exchange for them dropping the charge.
Luckily, other protesters videotaped the police pounding
Avery's head into the wall and made the footage available to media at a
news conference. Avery was released from jail on the ninth day of her hunger
strike after a friend paid her $1,000 bail.
