BUENA PARK, CA -- Two activists (a mother and daughter
team) went to trial for their part in a protest against dolphin captivity
at Knott's Berry Farm. Gina Lynn and her mother, Sherry Trapp, (along with
three others) were arrested after chaining themselves to the dolphin tank,
effectively canceling two dolphin shows that day.
Both activists were found guilty after a lengthy trial
which generated lots of media attention and educated judge and jury as
to the plight of the dolphin prisoners. After both Mother and Daughter
informed the judge that they would not accept probation (!), Trapp (convicted
of trespassing) was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and Lynn
(convicted of trespassing and resisting arrest) was sentenced to 250 hours
of community service and a $300 fine.
The pair are scheduled to appear in court again January
3 when Lynn's refusal to pay the fine may land her in jail (again).
